Stellantis has announced a pause in the retooling of its assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario, which was designated for the production of the next-generation Jeep Compass compact SUV. This development comes after the plant had already been closed in 2024 for upgrades, with plans initially set to resume production in 2025. However, the company now states that production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, indicating a significant delay in the launch of this highly anticipated vehicle.
The new Jeep Compass was intended to be built on a flexible platform designed for electric vehicles, allowing for a variety of powertrain options, including hybrids. The decision to halt retooling has been attributed to the ongoing uncertainty within the automotive industry, exacerbated by potential tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
